  • Taking a break

Life has been so crazy and full these past couple months that it would be virtually impossible to catch up on the blog here.  But that’s okay, because WE know what’s going on and have all the pictures and the wonderful memories stored away in our picture folder (and Facebook) and our minds.

I was going to try and do a final update before I leave for the summer, but it’s not going to happen.  It would take too long.  But I’ll give an overview of what’s been going on and what this summer holds for us (that we know of, at least!).

Christopher graduated high school!  Because of his dual enrollment at the community college the past couple of years, he will be entering UNCC as a sophmore.  Bethany is really excited about having another sibling on campus with her.

Our family went to the beach after Christopher’s graduation and had a blast.  A few days after that, Bethany left for California, where she is working at a camp until August.  We miss her, but are thankful for this opportunity for her.  Christopher will be going to Washington D.C. with his orchestra for a few days to perform there.  Then he will be a counselor at Camp Good News for three weeks.  Jennifer and I are going to CEF camp for a few days to help out, then we are going to the Philippines for a few weeks to share the Gospel in the high schools and colleges there.  Then we’ll also be counselors for three weeks at Camp Good News.

We are really excited about traveling and meeting new people!  We’re looking forward to seeing how God uses and teaches us.  All four of us have really enjoyed doing ministry where we live and we are thrilled to be able to expand our travels to across the country and OUT of the country!

  • Tis April!

Spring is here!!!!!!!!!!!  There is so much GREEN and COLOR around now.  It’s amazing!

    IMG 1257

    Hooray for color!

We’ve had some interesting-looking visitors in our neighborhood.  As pretty as swans are, they really aren’t nice creatures….at all.

We and a group of us from Charlotte went to Asheville for the day for a counselor training at Camp Good News.  It went really well and we had a fun time celebrating Mr. Dennis and Mrs. Marcia’s birthdays at the end of the day.  Can’t wait to be back up at camp in a couple months!  Check out camp’s website at www.campgoodnewsnc.org

Christopher’s time as concertmaster of the CSYO is coming to a close.  One of his last concerts was downtown at the Halton Theater.  He’s excited about his trip to Washington D.C. with the orchestra.

CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) pre-training has begun!  I’m excited about the youth who will be teaching 5 Day Clubs this summer in Charlotte.  We’ve had one pre-training where they learned how to share the Gospel.  There are two more sessions and then a test before they go to the 11-day training camp.  THEN they will come home and teach Bible clubs.

I’m honored to have the opportunity to prep them before they go to camp.  May God work in their lives and use them mightily!

  • Free ice cream, soccer, life, videos, and more…

Spring time is here!  And just when spring arrived, we got more cold weather.    However, the trees around us ARE blooming and we are seeing flowers pop up.

It was pajama day at Bruster’s a couple weeks ago.  If you wore PJs (even just PJ pants), you got a free waffle cone!  Woohoo!!  We were crazy and went to two Bruster’s in a row.  Talk about feeling sick afterwards.

Christina’s baby shower for Evangeline Marie (Evie) was so much fun!  We’re so happy for Christina and Nick.  Baby Evie is so precious!  Christina is our friend and boss, so we and the other teachers at the music school have been teaching her students and keeping the school going.

  • And life continues…

Since Photobucket has changed its settings, I had a really difficult time with pictures.  Now that I’m using a different hosting site, I can finally do a post!

Here is a summary of some of the things that went on in February (yes, I know it’s mid-March).

    CSYO conert

Christopher is concertmaster of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra.  The Youth Festival is THE concert to go to each year, because the CSYO gets to play alongside members of the Charlotte Symphony.

    Bridal Show

Our family business (Wescottage Music…check us out at www.wescottagemusic.com) participated in a bridal show.  We were one of the first vendors the visitors saw/heard. It went really well!  We always had at least one person talking and handing out our brochures while the others played.  Jennifer’s already talked with around 20 brides who signed our contact sheet.

    IMG 0569

Our set-up.  The photographer in the “booth” next to us was kind enough to lend us her small table (the table we were given was too big).  It was perfect!  I was also able to borrow an electric piano from a friend, which was a huge blessing.

Now it’s starting to feel (and look) like spring. We’re looking forward to seeing more green around here.

  • A Vunderful Winter

We’ve had a crazy schedule lately!  Thankfully, taking pictures was only a very small part of that “schedule,” so I can easily get caught up on January and almost be on track after this post!

    -New Year’s Bonfire-

    IMG_8834.jpg

When we do a bonfire, we do a BONFIRE.

    PicMonkeyCollagec.jpg

Our New Year’s party became a New Year’s Even party because of coming rain.  Even though our group was a bit smaller, it worked out great!!  I had been at Camp Good News helping with a teen retreat, so I got back just in time for our party.

    -New Jersey-

We three girls went to New Jersey the day after New Year’s to visit family before we had to return to school/work.  It was Jen and Bethany’s first time on a plane in 20 years….so it was basically their first time. I think it ended up being a good thing that all three of us sat separately on the way there.

    IMG_0034.jpg

So crowded!!!  But really, once you get out of the city parts of New Jersey and New York, they are GORGEOUS states.  They have “country,” rolling hills, mountains, etc.

On one of the days we were there, we went to vist Uncle Eddie.  We got a lovely view of the city from the highway and then had a delicous lunch at a great restaurant.

    PicMonkeyCollage_zps8fb26d43.jpg

On our last full day in Jersey, Uncle Mark picked us up from Grandma and Pop-pop’s and took us to Hoboken to get the best view of the city from across the Hudson River. He wasn’t kidding. The view was AWESOME.

We also got as close as we could to the Statue of Liberty from the Jersey line.  Uncle Mark was a great tour guide.

    -Nana Pat-

A couple weeks ago, some of us went to visit Nana Pat.  She wasn’t feeling too well, but I’m happy to say that when we saw her today in her new home, she was full of life.  Can’t wait to post the pictures from today!  She was rosy-cheeked and all-smiles and looked years younger.

    -Jammin’ Time-

We went to the Carter’s two weeks ago and had a “jam session” for Mrs. Carter’s birthday.  We had a super-fun time playing and singing a variety of music, including Fiddler on the Roof, old hymns, Getty songs, and Disney songs.

Then we celebrated with cake and singing Happy Birthday in opera voices.  haha!

  • December in review

Now that it’s the middle of January, I figured now would be a good time to show/tell what we did in December.    The only thing I’ve left out of this post is our annual New Year’s Day (turned Eve due to weather) bonfire.  That will be the next post.  Then we will be all caught up.

    () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () () ()

    Annual Caroling Party

For many years, we’ve set aside an evening to carol through our entire neighborhood.  We have fun dressing up in Dickens style outfits, singing 3 or 4 part carols, and watching people’s delighted faces as we sing.  Then we all come back for a party at our house!

    Ready to carol!

Missy’s friends, Ethan and Adam.   She wrote them both a letter.  So cute.

We split up into two groups so we could cover ground more quickly and make sure we got to every house.

    Party/Food time!

Does anyone remember playing “Down by the Banks of the Hanky Panky” when you were younger?  Definitely brought back childhood memories.  Couldn’t believe we played this…but it was so much fun!

    Playing “Down by the Banks…”

After a bit, we decided to get out a couple guitars and do some singing.  So much fun!

    Second Annual Christmas Party

Last year, Jen hosted a party for our Evangelism Gathering group.  We decided to do it again this year and make it into a college/career age party to make the group bigger.

Can you tell what the theme is?

One of our activities was splitting into three groups and making a list of at least 10 things that changed for humanity when Jesus Christ died and was raised back to life.  There were some great answers (try it yourself!).  It made all of us think and go to our Bibles.

Then we played a game where everyone got into groups of two, and one person was given a simple picture.  The people would stand back-to-back, and the person with the picture would have to describe it to the person behind them, while that other person drawn the described picture.  There were some that were apprehensive about this game, but it ended up being really really fun.  After the first picture, another picture was given out and the people would switch roles.

WONDERFUL parents!!  Thanks for all your help!

Our last game was the balloon tower game. We stayed in our previously assigned three groups and were given a bag of 40 balloons and tape. The goal was to blow up the balloons and a make the tallest balloon tower that would stand for ten seconds without any help. I wish we had a video of this! (and btw…that tower on the right IS taped to the ceiling…we didn’t win, but we got points for creativity )

This went on at the end of the party.  lol

    Christmas

We actually celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve since Dad had to work at BGEA on the 25th.  We all agreed that it was nice celebrating a day early.  We had a great and relaxing time together.

Dad is the master breakfast chef.  We had our traditional breakfast pizza.  Sooooo yummy!

The girls have a point system at church for the mid-week service.  They get points for different things, and those points turn to “money” when they do their Christmas store.  This is one of their favorite nights of the year.  The catch is that whatever they buy, they have to give away.  You’d think kids wouldn’t want to do that, but Missy and Marianna LOVE it.  They got some really nice gifts for everyone and were *so excited* to watch us all open what they had given us.  Priceless.

Whoever invented this ping-pong net is a genius.  It’s portable and doesn’t require a table.  It worked perfect on our pool/school table.

    My Birthday

I turned 24 on Christmas.  Since we celebrated Christmas early, we actually got to celebrate some of my birthday on Christmas!

We forgot about getting a birthday balloon like we do each year, but Missy saved the day and made me a custom birthday balloon.  Couldn’t have asked for a better one.

My birthday dinner request was Mexican Lasagna.

    Siblings!

Bethany made a delicious chocolate cake with a raspberry filling and chocolate icing.

    ‘Twas a wonderful birthday.

    Time with Old Friends

Got to see our friend Grace for a little bit while she was in town from TX.  Jen surged some baby blankets for Grace’s little girlie she’s expecting.  It was so nice to catch up with her!

    Christmas Break Fun

Our friends Hanna and Joseph were home from college, and we spent almost every day of Christmas break with them (at least it felt like it).  We played games, ate Cincinnati chili, went to parties, and watched a LOT of the movie Christy.  Glad we have awesome friends like them.

    Foot picture!

This was actually before my birthday and Christmas.  Some of us went over to the Carter’s house after church to play games, and Mr. and Mrs. Carter made me a birthday cake and we had a small party!  It was so sweet of them!  And the cake and ice cream were very VERY delicious.  I even got to lick all the extra batter because it was MY birthday.

    Christmas Tree Hunting

The Christmas Tree Bandits strike again!  After Christmas, we went to surrounding neighborhoods and collected Christmas trees that were on the side of the road.  We had the truick (which fits up to 13 trees, depending on their sizes…yes, we pack them in…and use lots of rope) and a smaller “scouting car.”  This is one of my all-time favorite activities of the year.

Because of some impending rain the following day, we covered the trees the first night.  They stayed pretty dry, thankfully.

The McGarty’s and Carter’s helped us on our first round.  We had quite a turnout of trees!

The Edward’s and Hanna C. helped us on our second run. We made some more runs, but these were the big ones.

Our total number of trees was around 60.  Pictures of the bonfire next.

  • Days of December

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  We sure did here.    We actually celebrated on Christmas Eve since Dad had to work at BGEA Library on Christmas.  It was fun getting done early.

Something a few of us were talking about was how Christ’s birth directly points to His death and resurrection.  So much attention is brought to only His birth without recognition of why He came.  While His birth is certainly worth celebrating and recognizing, it’s important to remember the reason He was born and how it affects us.  Praise God for His grace and forgiveness for those who believe!

    Christopher’s CSYO fall concert.

    He’s an awesome concertmaster!

Jen and one of her students who is in the JYO (the orchestra we all started out in).

Family and friends who came to watch Christopher.

Girls afternoon at the music school!  I actually was only here for part of this, but the girls had a great time singing, watching a Ray Comfort evangelism video, eating, and hanging out.  Yay for friends!

Just everyday life.  I snapped the two pictures below almost at the same time.  Marianna doing math with Dad and Christopher and Missy playing Dutch Blitz next to them.

Mom and the girls went on a field trip to the Billy Graham Library.

Lots of animals for their nativity!

    Great place!

This year the music school Jen and I work for didn’t do a Christmas recital.  BUT we did schedule three retirement homes and different teachers went to the homes with several students and put on recitals for the residents there.  This is Jen with a number of her students.  They did an awesome job!

This is Jen, Bethany, and Christopher playing a Christmas arrangement.  All four of us played it for church (I played the viola), but I wasn’t here at the retirement home.  Love this piece!

Bethany’s UNCC chamber ensemble concert.  The ensemble actually accompanied the UNCC chorale.  The chorale and ensemble were both AMAZING.  They performed Bach’s Magnificat.

Mom and Marianna went on another field trip to a Nutcracker performance uptown.  Missy was sick so she stayed home with me to decorate the tree, make cookies, and play a games.

The kids were so excited to ride the train.

    Uptown!!

Last Sunday, our friend Naomi came over.  We had fun hanging out and making cookies and peanut butter balls.  Yum!

The next day was our church’s Christmas cantata

Here’s the orchestra!  They did a great job.  The cantata went really well and everyone one (the choir included) sounded wonderful.

After the cantata, our family went ot the Carter’s for dinner.  Cincinnati Chili baby!!!  Oh yeah!

Thankful for friends like them.  Fun times!

More to come soon!  Like our caroling event, our Christmas party, and other Christmas activities.

  • Since it’s December, I figured I should get the rest of November’s pictures on here.   I guess I could have just left these pictures out and gone onto December pictures, but we happen to like a lot of these pictures sooooo…here goes!

We older four and some friends went to Stone Mountain, NC a few days after Thanksgiving.  It was an awesome place with an incredible view!  The whole top was completely rock, which was pretty neat.  God is so creative!

    IMG_7313.jpg

It was interesting to see trees growing out of the rock.  Seemed so random, but looked really REALLY cool.

Would love to go back here sometime.  It’s definitely worth the ride!

Christopher and the little girls had their fall choir concert at the end of November.

    So cute!!

Missy is in Music Makers and is *loving* it.  She’s an awesome singer and enjoys every aspect of choir.

During one of the songs, some of the kids held up state signs.  Missy looked so funny when she held it in front of her face.  Apparently she was supposed to do that, but we didn’t know that.  Either way, it was really cute.

Marianna is in Savior’s Singers (the choir Jennifer and Bethany started out in several years ago).  She loves her director and thoroughly enjoys singing as well.

Christopher is in the Carolina Youth Chorale.  We girls have all been in this choir as well.  There are a great group of talented kids in there!

    After the concert

Christopher’s “Fun with Chamber” ensemble performed the piece they’ve been diligently working on.  Wish I had a video of it!

For Thanksgiving, we had the Edwards family and part of the Carter family over.

We played volleyball, basketball, and soccer outside…and cards, foosball, and other games inside.

    Fun times!

    Our crazy group

Marianna and Missy were invited to a friend’s princess birthday party.  They LOVE dressing up and had a blast getting ready for this party.

    Love them

Alrighty….now to work on December pictures!!    It’s sometimes hard to find the time to go through pictures as you keep living them out!

Enjoy this season of the year!

By the way, I’d highly encourage you to check out the video below if you’d like a laugh.  We’ve been watching this nonstop and are constantly quoting it.  It’s so cute and funny!

  • Bethany and Christopher portraits

Bethany set up the camera and did some self-timer birthday portraits.  Not bad, huh?

The boots were definitely a favored accessory.

Lil’ Miss helped and took the two above pictures of Bethany.

If you take the picture on the left and multiply it by five, that’s Bethany’s personality.

Bethany is hilarious.  There’s  never a dull moment with her around.  If our family had a reality TV show (which we never would, btw), we’d get more ratings than Jon&Kate and the Duggar’s combined.

Jen took Christopher’s birthday photos.  Actually, I think these are his senior photos.  Poor guy had to get braces for the fourth time, so they made sure they did these pictures before the braces were put on once again.

Christopher is exceptionally good at the violin. We went to his orchestra concert last week, in which he had many solos, and we were blown away!  He’s worked hard and is using his God-given talent. Keep it up, Christopher!

Christopher is an awesome brother.  He enjoys spending time with us and making us laugh as well.

  • Creativity, Choir, Carmel Hills, & Crowder’s Mountain

Mom and Dad had their 26th anniversary in November.  Woohoo!

    IMG_7228.jpg

The anniversary table.  We printed a large photo of them to put in the 8×11 frame in their room.  A couple comments were made about how the strange lady who’d lived in the frame for quite some time would be missed…but I think everyone agreed that Mom and Dad (not some strange face for a sample picture) looked a lot better in the frame.

    ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

Mom had surgery at the beginning of  November. When she came home from the hospital, the little girls went all out to welcome her.  They had signs on the windows, chalk messages on the driveway, ribbons and streamers on the cars, and confetti to throw at Mom when she got out of the car.  So cute!

Marianna had fun decorating Mom’s bed.

We tried to make the “recovery room” fun and comfortable.

    ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

Love them!  Missy’s choir sang at a retirement home a little while ago.  They did a good job…Missy LOVES to sing.

    Some art work

    ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

We went to Carmel Hills Retirement Community with several students again and put on a small recital for the residents there.  They loved it!  And the students had fun too.

At the end, Jen and I did a duet, Angela played, and then we had a short time of singing, which the people loved.

    IMG_7172.jpg

Some fun ladies. They would have partied all night!

    ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

We six kids went to Crowder’s Mountain for the day last month.  Grabbed a friend last minute since we had an extra seat in our vehicle.

The leaves were still on the trees and changing colors at this time, so it was beautiful!

    IMG_6932.jpg

Missy had a blast.  She’s adventurous, but she also stayed close by the whole time.

After we got to the end of the trail and climbed past the danger sign  we walked on top of the mountain and took in this beautiful view.

When we go hiking, we’re used to doing it in the mountains and having a different view, but it was really neat to feel like we were above EVERYTHING and to see for miles and miles.

    IMG_6953.jpg

    So gorgeous!

Christopher was a trooper hanging out with all of us girls.
